About Prof. Dr. Syeda Tabassum Alam

Dr. Syeda Tabassum Alam is a highly experienced Professor and Director in the Department of Paediatric Neurology and Institute of Paediatric Neurodisorder & Autism (IPNA), Bangladesh Medical University (BMU), Dhaka, Bangladesh. She passed MBBS from Sir Salimullah Medical College, Dhaka in January 1987, obtained a Diploma in Child Health from IPGMER in July 1991, completed FCPS in Paediatrics in January 2006, and earned an MD in Paediatric Neurology & Neuro-Development from BMU. She also pursued a Fellowship in Autism from South Korea. After qualifying in the BCS (Health) Examination in 1990, she joined government service as an Assistant Surgeon and later became a Medical Officer in the Department of Paediatrics at BSMMU (formerly IPGMER) in 1994. Over the years, she served as Research Medical Officer, Consultant, Assistant Professor (2006–2013), Associate Professor (2013), and was eventually promoted to Professor and Director of IPNA in 2024. With over 30 years of experience, she has treated more than 100,000 patients with neurological and developmental disorders including autism, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, and neurodevelopmental delays. Known for her patient-centered approach and long consultation time, she has published over 60 research articles in national and international journals and has represented Bangladesh at numerous neurology conferences in Bhutan, South Korea, and India.
